Drawing from Nature Workshop

Yanny Petters will be facilitating a workshop at the entitled ‘Drawing from Nature’. Botanical drawing has been an important art since man has used plants for medicinal purposes. Yanny Petters workshop exploring botanical drawing will include a brief history of illustrative techniques used by the old masters. See nature with new eyes through simple drawing methods and learn to draw from living plants. This workshop aims to help participants hone their observation skills and awaken the joys of drawing.
Cost 35 Euro/participant and booking is essential by calling 045-860133.

New Committee Members

Stepping down from the committee were Suella Holland and Heather Buchanan. Many thanks to them for all their hard work over the years. The new committee consists of Sharon Maher-Bordalo (Chairperson), Jim O’Brien, Gary Doyle, Peter McKenna, John McCarthy, Bernadette Tuite and Jillian Gott.

Spirits of Meath

Meath Tourism hosts the Spirits of Meath festival around County Meath from 21st October-7th November 2011. County Meath – uniquely where it all began – is bringing you Ireland’s biggest and most electrifying Halloween Festival!!

There is an event planned for Navanat the end October for which Meath Arts Group will create some portals. Anyone who enters one of these portals will emerge slightly different than when they entered…

Navan Live 12-18 September

Headline acts such as UB40, Paul Brady and Henrietta Game will be performing at this years’ Navan Live event. To coincide with this Meath Arts Group will be hosting an Arts Trail around the town. Artworks will be on display in shop windows and empty shop units along Trimgate Street, Market Square, Kennedy Road and Navan Shopping Centre. Artists are requested to let us know, by 6pm this Friday 9th September, where your art is being exhibited.

As well as displaying artworks around Navan for the week Meath Arts Group would like everyone to become involved. Prior to the Festival MAG will be leaving clothing collection boxes in venues around the town (check for details later). All we ask is for donations of some old clothes – tshirts, shirts etc. Once gathered we will turn the clothes into strips of material and start knitting a giant scarf. Come along and join in and see what we feel needs warming up. Everyone is invited to come and create material strips and to knit (all ages and abilities are welcome).

Sculpture in Context Exhibition

When: 8th September to 21st October 2011

Sculpture in context celebrates ten years at the National Botanic gardens. Over 130 sculptures by Ireland’s leading artists will be displayed throughout the gardens, ponds, Great Palm House, and Curvilinear Range, with the smaller works exhibited in the gallery above the visitors’ centre.

Meath Arts Group’s Mette Roche‘s piece “Cultural Dissipation with Receptacles” is in the Curvilinear Glasshouse.
