Open Art Day Challenge

Calling all professional and amateur artists and practicioners of fine things!

The Happy Bear Cafe, 8 Watergate Street Navan has announced an Open Art Day Challenge on Sunday the 6th May.

It’s open to any age and is a day of individual art-making from 9a.m. to 9p.m. Can you motivate yourself into a continuous day of art-making in three different media? You choose your media from acrylics, watercolour, pencil, pastels, photo etc. Come to the Happy Bear at 9a.m., register and go anywhere for the remainder of the day. You can work outside on the streets of Navan, in the surrounding countryside or even at home. Your subject-matter is also your own choice. Just produce the visual goods and return them to the cafe at 9p.m. A jury will appraise the entries and decide the 1st, 2nd and 3rd awards for the best finished works of three individuals. to qualify in the challenge you must have chosen and completed three media and your work must be totally your own and unaided by a third party.

Entry to the challenge is €20 per person to be paid at the time of registration.

3-day Animation Camp: Mon 2^nd-Wed 4^th July, 10am-2pm
Become writer, illustrator, designer, sculptor, director and animator of your own personal stop motion animation feature!

2-day Creature Design Camp:Mon 16^th-Tues 17^th July, 10am-2pm
Draw, paint, collage, felt and stitch all manners of creatures and design a world for them all to live in!

5-day Summer Art Camp: Mon 13^th-Fri 17^th August, 10am-2pm
Illustrate your own book full of superheroes, fantastical creatures or fairies using collage, mixed media, pop-up, crafty bits
and arty games!

Surveyor – Meath Open

Solstice Arts Centre would like to invite artists living in or from the county of Meath to submit works of any discipline for inclusion in its inaugural SURVEYOR exhibition taking place 23rd June – 10th August, 2012.

This exhibition endeavours to explore contemporary visual practice from the county.

Virginia Plein Air Event

A FREE open air painting event to celebrate Virginia’s 400th Anniversary

Virginia’s Open Air Art event will be a major part of the Virginia 400 celebrations and will take place around Virginia, Co. Cavan over the June Bank Holiday Weekend 1st.- 4th June 2012.

Entry is open to any artist over 18 years of age. These 3 days of painting will culminate in a juried exhibition on Bank Holiday Monday with Cash prizes, Art Material Prizes and sales of paintings. There will also be some paint outs before and after the event.

The Virginia open air painting event will feature:
• 3 Days of Painting in Virginia and surrounding areas
• Free outdoor demonstrations
• Paint Outs around Virginia
• Exhibition
• Evening social events

The streets and surrounding areas of Virginia will be your studio, the harbour and boats, Lough Ramor and Deerpark Forest your inspiration. Many artists will be taking part. See them making art on the streets throughout the bank holiday weekend. Why not take part in the fun yourself in Virginia’s first ever outdoor painting event?
On each day there will be a free open air demonstration and you are invited to watch an experienced plein air artist in action. Locations will be announced prior to the event.

Exhibition opening

The first Sage & Stone Farmers Markets of 2012 takes place this Saturday 31st of March in Duleek, Co Meath.

With live music and plenty for the children to be entertained by, it is a great day out for all the family. Markets will take place this year on the last Saturday of every month from 11am – 4pm.

There are numerous Food, Plant and Craft stalls for all to enjoy.
