Mary Clarke
Mary has a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art, which she started in Canterbury in Kent and finished at DIT after moving to Ireland in 2005. She graduated in 2008. She has recently moved to Navan where she is hoping to re-launch and continue with her art practice.
Mary is currently exploring the disciplines required within Japanese Art. The Japanese train to use the paint brush as an extension of their body and mind; the quick and hypnotic use of the brush comes from a traditional education in art and calligraphy. The techniques are taught from an early age. However, very few Japanese artists reach the level of expertise that is required to gain the respect of their audience, an audience that searches for the technical skills which they are aware of, but are unable to produce themselves.
Her work in progress is from a western viewpoint, taking the concept without the training and using a freestyle and interpretive approach, which is not a measure of excellence that is afforded to the Japanese artist.
